Overview
As Staff/Lead Data Engineer at WeRoad, you will steer a small, senior data team to advance our data platform from solid foundations to best-in-class. You’ll own the data architecture (BigQuery, dbt, semantic layer), ingestion and orchestration (Airflow, dlt, serverless CDC), and self-serve BI tooling to empower multi-market stakeholders. You’ll set technical direction, mentor engineers, and contribute hands-on when it matters. You’ll also drive AI-enabled data engineering practices across the team, shaping data governance and trust. This role combines leadership with technical excellence to scale data capabilities for a fast-growing travel platform.

Responsabilità
- Lead a small data engineering team (1–2 engineers), owning delivery and career development
- Evolve WeRoad's data architecture: BigQuery warehouse, dbt transformation, and semantic layer for metrics
- Own ingestion and orchestration stack (Airflow, dlt) and ensure reliable, observable pipelines
- Oversee self-service BI and reporting toolkit (Tableau, Metabase, Lightdash) and enable stakeholder data exploration
- Establish and maintain data governance (quality, lineage, documentation, PII and access controls)
- Drive AI across the team, including AI-assisted engineering and AI data pipelines
- Collaborate with Director of Data Engineering & AI, Data & BI, Product, and stakeholders to translate priorities into a data roadmap
Requisiti fondamentali
- 5+ years in data engineering / analytics engineering in fast-growing product companies
- Experience leading and mentoring engineers in a small, senior team
- Strong SQL and hands-on expertise with dbt, modern ELT/ingestion (dlt or similar), and Airflow
- Experience with BI and dashboarding (Tableau, Metabase, Lightdash) and building a semantic/metrics layer
- Proven data governance experience (quality, lineage, documentation, PII and access management, self-service)
- Demonstrable use of AI in engineering and data pipelines and driving adoption
- Excellent communication skills; fluent English; comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-market, remote-first environment
