Role Overview

As a PLC Automation Programmer & Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for software development, electro-mechanical testing, on-site commissioning, and technical support of automated material handling, logistics, and storage systems at customer sites.

The role combines hands-on commissioning activities with close collaboration with project, software, and on-site teams to ensure delivery in line with quality, performance, schedule, and budget requirements.

Key Responsibilities

·       Develop and maintain PLC and control software with Tia Portal & Step 7 Siemens

·       Prepare commissioning activities, including documentation, tools, specifications, and software packages

·       Perform independent on-site commissioning of assigned machinery and systems

·       Execute interface and integration tests with higher-level systems (e.g. MFS)

·       Ensure compliance with safety standards, internal procedures, site regulations, process instructions and internal policies (travel policy, site report/journal, order and cleanliness, etc..)

·       Collaborate with the On-Site Manager and multidisciplinary project teams

·       Train customer personnel and support system handover after successful testing of performances and availability

·       Identify faults, root causes, and improvement opportunities (CIP), including third-party systems

·       Provide structured feedback to the Software Engineering department

·       Manage software versioning, documentation updates, and final archiving

·       Support technical hotlines and perform troubleshooting or service interventions as required

Profile & Requirements

·       Technical education in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or equivalent (apprenticeship with additional qualification acceptable)

·       Proven experience in PLC programming, preferably Siemens Tia Portal & Step 7 (FUP, AWL, STL)

·       Practical knowledge of drive technologies (asynchronous motors, servo drives, frequency converters)

·       Experience with industrial communication systems (Profinet, Ethernet, Profibus, CAN, AS-i)

·       Experience in intralogistics, material handling, or industrial commissioning is an advantage

·       High willingness to travel nationally and internationally (approx. 60–80%)

·       Strong problem-solving skills, resilience under pressure, flexibility, and reliability

·       Good command of Italian and English; additional languages are a plus
